Your car may be one of the most significant investments you ever make. Because you are spending so much money on it, you want to ensure that it will last for a long time. The best way to do that is to make sure that you keep up with all the preventive maintenance tasks.

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance aims to do all the jobs that will keep your car from breaking down or needing expensive repairs before it gets to that point. These things must be done regularly to ensure that your vehicle continues to function normally. The maintenance jobs have different schedules, so you must keep track of those things. What are some things that you should have checked on your car regularly?

Tires Rotated, Balanced, and Aligned

One of the things that you should do is to have your tires rotated, balanced, and aligned. Rotating your tires means changing which tires go on which wheels. When your tires are rotated, the mechanic can choose one of several different patterns in which to move the tires. The most common is an X or a modified X. An X rotation pattern works in that the tire on the rear passenger side becomes the front driver's side tire, and vice versa. The front passenger tire moves back to the rear driver's side. You should get your tires rotated since it will even out the wear and tear on your tires so that one side doesn't get more worn than the other. It also allows the mechanic to check to make sure that your tires are still in good shape and that you have enough tread on them. Check your owner's manual to see how often you should rotate your tires.

Windshield Wipers Checked

Many people don't think about getting their windshield wipers checked and changed. This is pretty easy to do and is a very inexpensive repair. If you notice that your wipers aren't clearing patches of your windshield or your windshield is streaky, it's time for you to change them. You can always check how well your windshield wipers are cleaning by spraying down the windshield and turning on your wipers.

Preventive maintenance tasks will make sure that your car lasts for a good long time. Keeping up with those tasks is relatively easy, and you will save money in the long run. A good auto repair shop can help with the maintenance and help you keep track of what was done and when.
